Ah Rhodos, it really is ‘our’ island. The weather is always nice! it has the perfect mix of modern and history, with the Old town and the modern town. The food is amazing (as in all of Greece, let’s be honest). Greek hospitality is my favorite thing in the whole world. Never been to Rhodes? Do read on! I bet you will want to book your flight by the end of this article.

4 Reasons to book your last minute RIGHT NOW!
1. The perfect mix between modern end history
Calling all history lovers!
The old town of Rhodes is a true walhalla if you’re into history. It’s romantic, idyllic, and crowded — but definitely a must-do. The old town is filled with museums, shops, and restaurants (but please mind you and don’t fall for tourist traps.) The Palace of the Grand Master is the main attraction. I’ve visited this place on every one of my trips. The entrance fee is €20, but it’s absolutely worth it.

2. Food!
Greek food is, without a doubt, the best food in the world! We did a really good research in Rhodos. We are not the All In Hotel kind of people. So we needed to grab our food, mostly twice a day. These are our recommendations. Although, there are alot of places yet to discover.
- Bahar Souvlakeri
If you crave gyros, pita, souvlaki and fries, this is the place! It’s located in the modern part of Rhodos, we literally stumbled upon it. It’s small and rather streetfood like, but boy!! I had the halloumi and it was the absolute best.
- Koykos
This is the place to be for a second breakfast. And by second breakfast I mean: Frappe and Bougatsa. What do you mean you never heard of bougatsa?? It’s the most delicious thing ever!! This place can get crowded as it is very popular amongst the locals as well.
- Socratous Garden
My absolute favorite place! The staff is super friendly. They don’t lure you in. It’s basically a secret garden in the middle of old town, because you can’t see from it’s outside facade what the inside beholds. It’s calm, even when it’s busy. You have equal tables in the sun and shade. You can go in for delicous cocktails, coffee or lunch.

- Blue Lagoon
Right next to ‘The throne of Helios’ lies a restaurant with a setting that seems to come directly out af a Pirates of the Carribeans movie. As if we were real pirates we went inside in another hidden paradise complete with shipswrecks and waterfalls, talking parrots and pirate dolls.
We ate an amazingly full Greek plate and Man, that was some good stuff! It was not expensive at all. So what can I say more? Arrrrrr you hungry? Go to Blue Lagoon! They also do Live Greek music nights, but unfortunately I’ve never been to one.
- Oasis Restaurant
Nice little restaurant in a not so busy square. A lot of trees so you’re always in the shades. We ate a Greek salad. Ruben ate a Stefado which is an onion stew! You can guess the fun in the evening! Lol! I took the chicken souvlaki which was very good! It came with delicious fries and rice! After we asked the bill, we got grapes from the house.
- Louis
If there is one restaurant you cannot miss, it’s Louis. They have menu’s in different languages and really the best food. They even speak a little bit of dutch! My main tip here, for the BEST experience is: order a couple of small dishes and fill your plate with a mix of them. OR be a little adventurous and let Louis decide for you. (whatever you do, take the filled mushrooms! It’s heaven on your plate, I swear!)
3. Discover true paradise
If you want to get a few hours away from the busy old town I recommend you go and explore Rodini Parkou. You need to be careful to not miss the entrance which lies on a busy street. But you forget all about the crowds once you enter this magical park. It’s like walking into Middle Earth. Rivers, bridges and silence. It’s home of the oldest aquaduct of Rhodos. This is lesser known than the springs of the butterflies, but definitely a must do.

4. Paradise is just a ferry away
If you, just like us, are not fond of driving in Greece. You should not to worry as there are a few places you can easily visit by ferry. Must do’s are Lindos and Symi. Lindos, with it’s white houses is the cheaper option for Santorini or Mykonos. It’s the perfect day trip and you can either swim, shop, walk around or visit the acropolis of Lindos. While Symi has a bit of Amalfi vibes.
Due to time shedule reasons we haven’t done Symi. But it is definitely on our to do list.

I hope this post was enough to make you book a trip to Rhodos asap! Or, if you can wait just a little bit. I’d recommend you to go in September. The weather is still hot, but it’s less crowded.
